President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky responded to an electronic petition regarding legalization of same-sex marriage in the country.
Relevant petition was posted on the website of the official website of the President of Ukraine on June 3. It was supported by 28 thousand 592 people.
The President recalled that according to the Constitution of Ukraine, marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man, and under martial law, the Constitution cannot be changed.
“At the same time, the government was developing options for decisions regarding the legalization of a registered civil partnership in Ukraine as part of the work to establish and ensure human rights and freedoms. In accordance with Article 116 of the Constitution of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine takes measures to ensure the rights and freedoms of man and citizen,” Zelensky’s response says.
The President instructed Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal to consider the issue raised in the petition and inform him of the results.
Earlier it was reported that Vladimir Zelensky responded to a petition about demolition of the monument to Catherine II in Odessa and the installation of a monument to American actor Billy Herrington in its place.
