The Romanian specialist shared his expectations from the match against Sturm in the Champions League qualification.
Wednesday, August 3, Kiev “Dynamo” will play the first match against the Austrian “Sturm” in the third round of UEFA Champions League qualification.
Mentor of “white-blue” Mircea Lucescu shared his thoughts about the upcoming match. The Romanian specialist noted that his wards expect a tough game, but they will do everything to get through to the next round.
“It will not be an easy game for us. We expect a tough matchup in the European tournament. The whole team understands what kind of match awaits us tomorrow – for the image of the country, for their popularity. As you can see, all the teams playing in European competitions are very well prepared, and participation in these tournaments is a great motivation for every player.
“Sturm” has already managed to play two official matches in their championship, they have already entered the competitive rhythm, and have an advantage over us. Our opponents are a very good team, with a good organization of the game, the players know what to do on the field. So it won’t be easy for us.
Starting squad? No doubt, but I won’t tell you it. You know, we play at home, but not really at home. It’s a shame that there are no Ukrainian journalists now – and it’s terrible. Tomorrow will be a similar situation. There will be Ukrainian women and children in the stands, and men do not have the right to leave the country now and protect it. And we will fight on the field in order to overcome qualifications and play in the Champions League for them,” Lucescu said at a pre-match press conference.
Recall that Dynamo Kyiv nominally home match against Sturm will be forced to play in the Polish city of Lodz at the LKS stadium named after Vladislav Krol.
The winner of the two-legged confrontation “Dynamo” – “Sturm” will advance to the playoff round of the Champions League qualification, where for a ticket to the group stage will fight with the winner of the duel “Benfica” (Portugal) – “Mitjylland” (Denmark). The losing team, in turn, will enter the group stage of the Europa League.
