According to the President of Ukraine, the issue of finding alternative ways to export grain crops is still relevant.
Harvest grain in Ukraine this year could be half as much due to a full-scale Russian invasion.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky in Twitter.
“The Ukrainian harvest this year is in danger of being half as large. Our main goal is to prevent a global food crisis caused by the Russian invasion,” the head of state said.
He also added that the issue of finding alternative ways to export grain crops is still relevant.
As UNIAN reported, on July 22, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal stated that grain and oilseed harvest this year expected at the level of 65-70 million tons. This is about 70% of the 2020/21 figure.
Agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine: details
July 22 in Istanbul an agreement was signed to unblock three Ukrainian ports – “Odessa”, “Chernomorsk” and “Yuzhny” – for the export of grain and other agricultural products.
Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu signed separate identical agreements with the UN and Turkey.
Control over the ports “Odessa”, “Chernomorsk” and “Yuzhny” remains entirely with the Ukrainian side.
The term of the agreement is 120 days with the possibility of extension. The Ukrainian and Russian military approved the export routes. Military escort of cargo is not provided. Vessels going to Ukraine will be examined for the presence of weapons, representatives of the Russian Federation are also involved.
