“There is a lot of work to be done. We are working with the Turks and other European friends and allies to see what we can do,” Johnson said.

He said the UK was considering all options when asked if the government could provide sovereign guarantees for shipping insurance.

“What the UK can possibly offer, first of all, is experience in the field of marine insurance and a lot of experience in moving goods, let’s say, through disputed areas of the sea,” the prime minister said.

Asked if the UK was ready to help Ukraine clear mines in the area, Johnson said: “I don’t want to get into technical or military details, but from what we’ve done so far in supplying equipment to Ukrainians to help protect themselves, you can see that we , of course, we are talking with them about what we can do in technical terms to help clear Odessa from mines.”
