Trade turnover between China and other BRICS countries increased by 12.1%

Trade between China and the other BRICS countries rose 12.1% year on year to reach 1.31 trillion yuan (about $195.96 billion) in the first five months of this year, customs officials showed, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the PRC General Administration of Customs, this figure is 3.8 percentage points higher than the overall growth of China’s foreign trade over the same period.

BRICS is an acronym for a group of emerging markets that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. From January to May, China’s exports to the other four BRICS countries rose 18.1% year on year, while imports from them rose 6.6%, according to the agency.

Mechanical and electronic goods and labor-intensive goods accounted for 69.7% of Chinese exports to other BRICS countries in value terms in five months, while 76.3% of Chinese imports of these were energy and agricultural products, as well as…
