The investigation asked to transfer from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest the rector of Shaninka Sergey Zuev

The investigation asked the court to transfer Sergei Zuev, the rector of Shaninka, who is involved in the fraud case, from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. It is reported by Interfax with reference to the Tverskoy Court.

The application will be considered on August 3 at 11:00.

What is the reason for the petition of the investigation, is unknown. In June, the Second Court of Cassation canceled and resent autumn decision on the transfer of Zuev from house arrest to a pre-trial detention center, however, the Moscow City Court decided againthat he should be kept in custody.

Sergei Zuev is one of the defendants in the case of embezzlement of funds from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, which also involves the former deputy head of the department, Marina Rakova. According to the investigation, Shaninka received budget money for the implementation of two contracts, but did not complete the work. Zuev and Rakova are also involved in the case of alleged fictitious employment of 12 employees of the Ministry of Education at the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA.

Sergei Zuev was detained in October 2021, taking away from the hospital, where he ended up with a hypertensive crisis. The rector was placed under house arrest, after which he held emergency heart surgery. In just one year, he underwent three surgeries. After Zuev was placed in a pre-trial detention center, he ended up in civilian and prison hospitals several times.
