United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated that the occupiers had turned the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant into a “nuclear shield”. Russia is using the nuclear power plant as a military base and is firing at Ukrainian forces around it.

Blinken said this after the UN talks on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons in New York, reports Reuters.

The US Secretary of State called Russia’s actions regarding the largest Ukrainian nuclear power plant “the pinnacle of irresponsibility.” He accused the Kremlin of using the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant as a “nuclear shield.” From there, the invaders attack the Ukrainian forces, because they understand that they will not receive a retaliatory strike.

“Of course, the Ukrainians cannot return fire, otherwise there will be a terrible accident at the nuclear power plant,” Blinken said.

And if earlier the Russian Federation was hiding behind a “human shield” of civilians in the temporarily occupied territories, now the aggressor country has gone further and is hiding behind a “nuclear shield,” the US Secretary of State believes.

However, in the Russian Federation, of course, they are trying to refute all the accusations. Representatives of the aggressor country at the talks on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons said that their actions at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant allegedly “in no way undermine the nuclear security of Ukraine and do not interfere with the normal operation of the nuclear power plant.”
