The age limit for civil service in some positions has been raised to 70 years

The law expands the range of positions in the civil service, the term of which can be extended even after reaching the age limit (65 years). Now this also applies to the category “heads” of the main group of positions in the apparatus State Duma and Federation Councilfederal authorities subordinate to the government, as well as regional authorities.

The maximum age until which such a post can be maintained is 70 years. To extend the term of service, the consent of the civil servant himself is required.

The age limit for being in the state civil service is 65 years. At the same time, in 2021, amendments were already adopted allowing some civil servants to extend their term of service up to 70 years – then they concerned the category “heads” of the highest group of positions

About the job competition

In addition, the law corrects admission to the civil service by competition. The document establishes that the competition may not be held by the decision of the employer upon appointment to positions related to the junior group, as well as in other cases provided for by law.

The law also establishes that in 2022 and 2023 the competition may not be held for appointment to the positions of the state civil service of the Russian Federation related to the highest, main, leading and senior groups.

The law will enter into force 10 days after its publication.
