A team of domestic specialists from the Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IGIC RAS) and other research organizations have developed cotton with an antibacterial effect. About it informs “Gazeta.Ru” with reference to Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
To do this, the fabric was coated with metal oxide nanoparticles, which are known to inhibit the activity of bacteria and other microorganisms, even resistant ones. For additional protection, scientists used ultrasonic processing technology, which made it possible to evenly distribute metal particles.
The final appearance and quality of the material does not differ at all from ordinary cotton for the consumer. As specified, the protective coating can withstand at least 20 washes in the washing machine. During a three month trial Vietnamwhere high humidity and temperature, which contributes to the active reproduction of pathogens, the number of microorganisms on the tissues was 30-100 times less than on cotton without treatment.
