Travel on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter for cars from Moscow and the region will be free

Travel on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) will become paid for transit cars from January 2. Drivers from the capital and Moscow region continue to use the highway for free. About it says Mayor’s official website Moscow.

MSD is already among the ten most popular roads in the capital. Every day, about 250,000 cars pass through its main section – the North-Eastern Chord.

“Sergei Sobyanin set the task of making MSD work primarily as an intracity highway for residents of Moscow and the region. According to our forecasts, after the launch of the entire Moscow High-Speed Diameter, the number of cars will grow to 400,000. Therefore, based on the suggestions of experts and Muscovites, we have formed the mechanics of the work of paid travel on MSD in such a way that transit traffic does not interfere with residents of the capital and the region, ”said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport Maxim Liksutov.

The Moscow Department of Transport received more than 100 proposals from citizens and experts on the organization of travel on the MSD. On their basis, a loyal payment system was formed.

All cars and land transport with numbers of Moscow and the Moscow Region, taxis with a license to work in the capital and the Moscow region, as well as intercity buses will be able to travel free of charge along the Moscow High-Speed Diameter. Transit on the MSD of freight transport without a pass will be prohibited.

The fare will be collected from transit cars with license plates from other regions that will use any entrance to and exit from the MSD within two hours and cross the borders of the Central Ring Road within 24 hours. This will be controlled using the existing photo and video recording system.

The fare for travel on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is 950 rubles. It will be possible to pay for the fare using the website or the Parking of Russia application. Also, fare payment will be available using transponders. The payment system will be tested in December.

The Moscow High-Speed Diameter is the main road construction project in the capital. The transport artery will unite the North-Eastern and South-Eastern chords. The main site (TSW) was opened in September. The southern section (SVH) is planned to be put into operation in 2023. The MSD will have 14 convenient interchanges that will help improve the transport accessibility of 48 districts of the capital, where more than 4.5 million people live, and also relieve sections of the Garden Ring, the Third Transport Ring and the Moscow Ring Road.
