The head of Novaya Kakhovka Leontiev: there is no threat to the operation of the North Crimean Canal

There is no threat to the operation of the North Crimean Canal now. In that RIA News assured the head of the administration of the New Kakhovka Kherson region Vladimir Leontiev.

The official explained that the canal was designed and built in such a way that water flows by gravity into the Crimea.

At the same time, on October 20, Leontiev informedthat in the event of a breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, the supply of water through the North Crimean Canal will stop. According to him, if the hydroelectric power station is broken through, then “for many years to come” the peninsula will be left without water.

Back in 2014 Ukraine blocked the water flowing to the Crimea from the Kherson region. During the special operation, the Russian army liberated the hydrotechnical unit.
