Rospotrebnadzor expert Pshenichnaya considered the emergence of a “tridemic” in Russia unlikely
The emergence of a “tridemic”, that is, a pandemic, during which patients would become infected with three viruses at once, is extremely unlikely in Russia. This was stated to journalists by the Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology Rospotrebnadzor Natalya Wheat.
According to Pshenichnaya, there is a risk of contracting two viruses at once, and this has happened in Russia before – she recalled the frequent combination of influenza and respiratory syncytial infection. At the same time, she noted that the likelihood that both viruses will be at their peak – so that a pandemic situation is formed, is very small.
“Before the coronavirus pandemic, the flu often “combined” with the respiratory syncytial virus. (…) Against the background of the spread of one, diseases can be observed with the other two, but for two, and even more so three viruses (including coronavirus) to be at their peak at the same time, this is unlikely, ”Pshenichnaya said.
At the same time, the specialist recalled that preventive measures should still be observed, which remain the same as with coronavirus.
Formerly doctors in USA warned about the risk of a viral “tridemic”. Hospitals in the US are already under pressure from the spread of respiratory infections.
