NYT: Four women are among the candidates for the post of the next NATO Secretary General
As the main candidate for the post of the next Secretary General NATO after expiration Jens Stoltenberg consider the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance Canada Christie Freelandwho previously also served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, writes newspaper The New York Times (NYT), citing its sources.
The publication noted that among the candidates who could lead the North Atlantic Alliance after the departure of Stoltenberg, there were four women and one man. There are no Americans among them, since General USAaccording to the newspaper, is traditionally the commander-in-chief of the joint forces of NATO in Europe.
Prime Minister nominated among possible candidates in Europe Estonia Kaya Callasthe president Slovakia Zuzana Chaputova and ex-president Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. Applicant from Great Britain may become the current Minister of Defense of the country Ben Wallace.
A NATO source admitted that members of the alliance could extend Stoltenberg’s powers for another year.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia Sergei Lavrov advised NATO Secretary General to change jobs, as he can not cope with his duties.
