Poland says more than a million refugees from Ukraine plan to stay in the country

Refugees from Ukraine between 1.1 and 1.2 million plan to stay in Poland for a long time. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Commissioner of the Government of the Republic for Refugees Pavel Shefernakertransmits RIA News.

“To date, 1 million 439 people have registered in the PESEL registry (identification number – approx. “”). (…) We now estimate that about 1.1-1.2 million people are a group that wants to stay in Poland for a long time,” he said. Schaefernaker specified that over 90 percent of those wishing to be in the state are women with children. Moreover, according to him, European Union there is no other country in which so many people would plan to stay for a long time.

Formerly Deputy Minister Pavel Shefernaker declaredthat Ukrainian refugees will be deprived of free housing in Poland in 2023. Warsaw will freeze the payment of material assistance to citizens of Ukraine returning to their homeland. At the moment, refugees receive 500 zlotys (more than $100) for each minor family member.
