WP: a group of US Republicans opposed the transfer of income from the assets of Russians to Ukraine
Republican group in US Congress opposed the introduction of a provision in the defense budget that would allow Washington transfer Ukraine income from the seized property of Russians. Writes about it Washington Post with reference to informed sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, Republicans believe that the provision has not been fully verified, so this item should be considered by the legal committees in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
There is widespread opposition to the provision, even though members of both parties in the House have approved it as part of their defense budget proposal, Laura Peavy, a Republican representative on the House Financial Services Committee, said.
In turn, the staff member Democratic Party believes that the Republicans, by blocking the point, want to involve the Democrats in some kind of political bargaining.
Former Republicans admitted “Turn off the tap” of Ukraine’s funding in case of its victory in the elections to the House of Representatives USAwhich will take place on November 8th. Thus, North Dakota Rep. Kelly Armstrong believes that Washington may stop supporting Kyiv because of the change in American voters.
