“Kommersant”: Russian companies delay the launch of power units due to lack of equipment

Since the spring of this year, Russian generating companies have been delaying the launch of power units under the modernization program due to a lack of equipment. About this with reference to the schedule for the actual commissioning of projects that they wanted to implement in 2022, writes “Kommersant”.

In total, it was about 14 renewed power units with a total capacity of 2.74 gigawatts. Eight facilities with a capacity of 2.2 gigawatts have already been put into operation, but six of them were launched at the beginning of the year, and since the tightening of the sanctions confrontation associated with the deployment of troops to Ukrainemanaged to bring to the final stage only two power units.

Thus, delays are fixed at six power units with a total capacity of 575 megawatts. For example, an eight-month lag is observed in the project for the modernization of the power unit at the Novo-Salavatskaya CHPP for 105 megawatts (ā€œGazprom energy holding”) and the ninth block of the Perm CHPP-9 (Irkutskenergo).

T Plus company also delays the modernization of the tenth unit of the Permskaya CHPP-9, but assures that it will cope before the end of the year, and the problems are related to the delay in the supply of components. The commissioning dates for the Kirishskaya GRES unit and the Irkutsk CHPP-6 power unit have been postponed to January 2023. In addition, generating companies have changed the deadlines for completing work on 11 projects where commissioning was planned in 2023-2027.

The Council of Energy Producers (which unites generating companies) explained that difficulties arise with the main and auxiliary equipment, as well as with components that Russian companies must produce. In addition, the deadlines are being shifted due to a significant increase in the cost of metal, building materials, equipment rental, contractor services, and much more. At the same time, the organization recalled that prices on the wholesale energy market are growing below inflation.

Already in July reported about problems with the modernization of at least seven power units, the cost of work on which was estimated at 37.5 billion rubles. On this background Russia agreed on deliveries of 40 gas turbines from Iran.
