Russian MMA fighter Askar Askarov announced his retirement from the UFC due to health reasons
Russian mixed martial artist (MMA) Askar Askarov on Instagram (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) announced his retirement from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The athlete said that the fight with the American Brandon Royal was the final one under his contract, after which he asked the UFC management to release him from his obligations. To this he received a positive response. “My return was delayed for health reasons. First, we will put our health in order, and then we will see,” Askarov said.
In 2022, fights involving Askarov were canceled twice. In July did not take place the fight of the Russian against the American Alex Perez due to the removal of Askarov. In October he didn’t fight with Royval, as he could not meet the weight.
March 26 Askarov suffered the first defeat in his career. He lost by decision to New Zealander Kai Kara-France. During his career in MMA, Askarov won 14 victories, another fight with his participation ended in a draw.
