Sergei Zuev, rector of Shaninka, pleaded guilty in the case of fraud. According to the investigator, he testified against other defendants.

The rector of Shaninka, Sergey Zuev, confessed to the case of embezzlement of budgetary funds of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, an investigator of the Investigative Committee said in the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow, writes Interfax.

According to the investigator, Zuev pleaded guilty and “exposed” other defendants in the case. Rector Shaninka also fully compensated for the damage in the case.

Zuev’s lawyer confirmed that his client paid damages and gave evidence that would contribute to the investigation of the case.

The investigation appealed to the court with a petition to transfer Zuev from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest.

Sergei Zuev is one of the defendants in the case of embezzlement of funds from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, which also involves the former deputy head of the department Marina Rakova and the rector of the RANEPA Vladimir Mau. According to investigators, Shaninka received budget money to fulfill two contracts, but did not complete the work. Zuev and Rakova are also involved in the case of alleged fictitious employment of 12 employees of the Ministry of Education at the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA.

Sergei Zuev was detained in October 2021, taking away from the hospital, where he ended up with a hypertensive crisis. He was placed under house arrest, after which he made emergency heart surgery. During the year, Zuev underwent three operations. After rector Shaninka was placed in a pre-trial detention center, he ended up in civil and prison hospitals several times.
