Russian diplomat assesses the prospects for Serbia’s admission to the European Union

Moscow cooperates with Belgrade on a mutually beneficial basis and aims to deepen the bilateral strategic partnership. This was stated by the director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Yuri Pilipson June 23 in an interview with TASS.

The diplomat stressed that the Russian side “highly appreciates the principled position of the Serbian friends, who maintain an independent line in the current difficult situation.” At the same time, Moscow is well aware of how difficult it is for the Serbian leadership to withstand pressure from the US and the EU, forcing Belgrade to “give up the quality of relations” with Russia in the name of European integration.
