In Grozny , more than 50 thousand people took to the rally in support of referendums on the entry of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into Russia , Ismail Denilkhanov, chairman of the region’s public chamber , told RIA Novosti .
Citizens took to the action with Russian flags and posters “Grandfathers could, and we can”, “Russia, forward!” and “Brothers, we are waiting for you.”
Denilkhanov noted that the referenda “will put an end to years of violence against civilians in Donbass.” He recalled that 19 years ago the Chechen people also made their choice and thanks to this the republic became a prosperous region.
A rally in support of the referenda was also held in Bryansk . According to the governor of the Bryansk region Alexander Bogomaz , about 20 thousand people gathered at the event.
The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the administrations of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, decided to hold referendums on joining Russia. Voting takes place September 23-27. Gazeta.ru chronicles the events.
