Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine notes that it is important not to give the Russian Federation space to implement its policy of escalation in relations between Serbia and Kosovo.

This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

“Ukraine welcomes the achievement of a compromise decision by Pristina to postpone the start of procedures for re-registration of Serbian car license plates and personal documents. We call on the parties to constructive dialogue in order to ensure the safety of all citizens, preserve peace and ensure the stable development of the Western Balkans,” the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that “it is important not to give the Russian Federation space to implement its policy of escalation in the region.”

Ukrainian diplomats also reminded that a round-the-clock “hot line” of the Ukrainian Embassy in Serbia was opened to help Ukrainians: +381631113185.

As UNIAN reported earlier, clashes broke out in northern Kosovo on July 31 over a change in travel rules.

After that, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the Kosovo army was allegedly going to attack the Serbs in the north of the country.

At the same time, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti blamed Vučić himself and the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija for the unrest.

The command of the KFOR contingent (the NATO-led international security force in Kosovo) said they were ready to intervene in the situation if necessary.

Subsequently, the Kosovo authorities announced that they were postponing the procedure for imposing a ban on Serbian documents until September 1.

Ukraine does not recognize Kosovo, considering this territory a part of Serbia. The key reason is the presence in Ukraine of problems with the illegally annexed Crimea and the occupation of part of the Donbass.

Since 2019, Ukraine has been recognizing Kosovo passports for issuing visas.
