Hungary urges EU to lift sanctions and start talks with Russia

Political Adviser to the Prime Minister of Hungary Balazs Orban said that the European Union should stop the policy of anti-Russian sanctions and start negotiations with Moscow on the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. He said this in an interview published on June 23 with Reuters.

According to the adviser to the head of the Hungarian government, Europe, in the end, due to economic problems, will be the losing side in this war. Taking into account the fact that the sanctions failed to cause serious damage to the Russian economy and stop the conflict on the territory of Ukraine, the process of introducing new anti-Russian sanctions should be stopped.

“We are now seeing that the more sanctions we impose, the worse shape we are in … So it’s time to think about negotiations, a ceasefire and peaceful diplomacy.”
