Colombia recognizes Gustavo Petro as president-elect

The Electoral Council of Colombia officially recognized Gustavo Petro elected Colombian president. This was announced by the head of the national registry of acts of civil status of the country Alexander Vega within the framework of the ceremony of promulgation of the election results and presentation of credentials.

Petro enlisted the support of 11,292,758 voters – 50.41% of all votes, which is a historical record for the leaders of the republic. The new head of state represents the Historical Pact socialist coalition.
