China’s Yunnan drastically reduces drug seizures

A total of four tons of drugs were seized in southwest China’s Yunnan province in the first five months of this year, more than 50% less than in the same period last year, Xinhua news agency reported.

“In recent years, Yunnan has reduced the number of drug-related inflows from abroad due to strict epidemic prevention and control measures in the border areas and strengthening the investigation of drug-related crimes,” said the deputy director of the provincial drug control commission. Hu Shuiwang.

Last year, 5,306 drug-related criminal cases were solved in the province, 6,161 suspects were arrested, and 29.87 tons of drugs were seized, down 33.8%, 31.2%, and 15.8%, respectively.
