The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the command of the Russian Navy have given a high appraisal to the first apparatus of the Liana space maritime reconnaissance system. This was announced on Thursday, November 10, by an informed source in the rocket and space industry.
How informs TASS, citing a source, said that the first of two Pion-NKS active reconnaissance satellites included in the system was officially accepted by the customer. Discussions are currently underway on the manufacture of the next Pion-NKS spacecraft.
Along with the two “Pions”, the system of space marine reconnaissance being created includes four passive reconnaissance satellites “Lotos-S1”. They were launched into Earth orbit between 2014 and 2021. “Pion-NKS” is distinguished by the ability not only to track targets, but also to aim high-precision weapons at them.
Official comments of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the command of the Russian Navy on this issue have not yet been received.
Reports about Russia’s plans to deploy new orbital constellations with military satellites communications and intelligence appeared in 2020. It was assumed that work would begin in 2022, and the entire orbital constellation of new satellites of the Unified Space System would be launched into near-Earth orbit by 2024. To control spacecraft in all types of orbits, a unified command-measuring system “Topaz” is being created.
