A newly discovered potentially dangerous asteroid will fly relatively close to Earth on November 1st. According to scientists, the diameter of the asteroid, called 2022 RM4, is from 330 to 740 meters.

At the point closest to the Earth, a celestial object will be be at a distance of about 2.3 million km, which is about six times the distance between the Moon and our planet. By space standards, this is a small distance.

How clarifies Live Science, any space object at a distance of up to 7.5 million km from the Earth is classified as potentially dangerous. However, scientists assure that our planet is not threatened by an apocalyptic collision with an asteroid, at least for the next 100 years.

Earlier, the American probe DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test, an experiment to change the orbit of a double asteroid) successfully conducted test impact with an asteroid. NASA announced the preparation of the experiment back in November 2021. The agency called the purpose of the tests to check the possibility of effectively changing the trajectory of the movement of a celestial body as part of testing the Earth’s protection system.
