The next round of talks (the 19th in a row), a high-level guarantor countries, in the role of which Russia, Turkey and Iran act, of the “Astana” process for a settlement in Syria will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan. This was announced on Monday, November 7, by Aibek Smadiyarov, an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“They will take place at the end of November,” Smadiyarov specified. He has not named the exact dates of the talks in Astana yet. The words of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan leads RIA News.

The armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. Negotiations began in 2017. They are known as the “Astana format” (after the name of the capital of Kazakhstan). In January 2018, the Syrian National Dialogue Congress was held in Sochi. It is considered the first attempt since the beginning of the conflict to gather a wide range of participants in one negotiation platform. As a result of the congress, it was decided to create a constitutional committee. He works in Geneva. The main task of the committee is the preparation of the constitutional reform.

Russia, Turkey and Iran initiated the format of a political settlement in Syria and guarantors of a peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict.

The previous round of talks on Syria took place in the capital of Kazakhstan in June. It was attended by representatives of the Syrian government and opposition, as well as the UN.

In July RF, Iran, Turkey rejected all unilateral sanctions against Syria. The country leaders also called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to increase assistance to the Syrians.
