The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its regret after a video appeared showing an employee of the consulate in Murmansk speaking obscenely to the staff of a hotel and stating that she “hates Russians”.

The video was published on the morning of July 30 by the telegram channel Mash. On it, you can hear a woman yelling at the hotel staff – according to Mash, due to the fact that she was asked to wait until the maid cleaned her room. According to the telegram channel, the woman on the recording is Elisabeth Ellingsen, she works at the Norwegian consulate in Murmansk since 2019 as Consul for Administrative Affairs.

“I’m used to clean rooms, I’m from Scandinavia. Not like some Russian woman who cleans up anyhow, ”in particular, it is heard on the recording. The woman, according to the audio transcript, also insults the hotel staff, stating that “this hotel is a disgrace, and you guys are too” and demands from them “not ***** [выносить] brain”.

According to Mash, the police launched an investigation, the results of which could lead to a case of inciting hatred (Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The police themselves did not officially comment on the fact of the check.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova statedthat the department is “working out options for responding to this outrageous act of hatred, nationalism and xenophobia.” “The statements of this citizen clearly sounded hatred for one nationality and undisguised national superiority,” Zakharova concluded.

Zakharova also noted that “it would be right” if the Norwegian Foreign Ministry “outstripped the reaction” of the Russian foreign ministry.

In the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself in a commentary to RT declaredexpressing regret over the incident. They stressed that “they are working on it through the appropriate channels.” “The expressed feelings in no way reflect Norwegian policy or the attitude of Norwegians towards Russia and the Russian people,” the department said.
